BOISE STATE 8, BYU 6

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - There was no shortage of offense in tonight’s finale in Puerto Vallarta. Backed by the bats of Sophia Knight, Mykenzie Hanna, and Megan Lake, Boise State was able to outpace BYU.

Boise State started the scoring with a crooked number, putting up three in the 2nd frame. Brooklynn Pettis reached on an error to start the inning. She would later come around to score on a Chloe Hughes single through the left side. Sophia Knight continued her dominance in Mexico with a double to left field, scoring Megan Lake. Knight was chopped down at 3rd to end the inning, trying to advance on an error in the outfield.

Boise State tacked on two more in the 3rd with a Pettis double into right center, bringing around Makenzie Butt and Mykenzie Hanna.

BYU promptly answered back with a big inning of their own. Lily Owens started the scoring for the Cougars with an infield single to second, scoring Lauren Flanders on an error in the infield. Two pitches later, Ilove'a Brittingham hit a no-doubt 3-run home run to dead left, to bring the Boise State lead to just one.

Boise State returned the favor in the next half with a single into left from Mykenzie Hanna, scoring Hughes and Knight, making the tally 7-4.

In the bottom of the 4th, the Cougars cut into the Boise State lead with a two out single from Flanders that deflected off the pitcher and second baseman to wiggle into right field, scoring one, making the Bronco lead 7-5.

Boise State, once again, answered back immediately. The Broncos’ bottom half of the order loaded the bases for Mykenzie Hanna to score a runner by way of hit by pitch. BYU pitcher K North struck out Makenzie Butt to leave the bases loaded in the top of the 5th. 

BYU scratched one across in the bottom of the 6th by way of a Danica Acosta hit by pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in Miranda Mansfield. Boise State’s Julianne Rose promptly shut the door on the bases loaded opportunity by forcing a ground out to end the inning.

With runners on 2nd and 3rd, with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, Rose forced a 5-3 ground out to end it.

Boise State plays their finale in PV tomorrow night against 8:00PM EST. BYU plays a double header tomorrow, starting at 2:00PM EST.
