PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – BYU finished off its Puerto Vallarta College Challenge with a 5-1 victory over Florida International on Saturday evening.
Kaysen Korth, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, once again pitched a gem, going the distance giving up just one unearned run and five hits. For the tournament, Korth pitched 14.1 innings and gave up just two earned runs.
Hailey Morrow got the scoring started for the Cougars with a solo home run in the first inning. In the second inning, BYU did its damage on the basepaths. On a walk to Lily Owens, Lindy Milkowski, also an All-Tournament selection, caught the FIU defense out of position and advanced from first to third. Then, Lauren Flowers laid down a bunt which scored Flowers and advanced Owens to third. The next at bat, BYU successfully executed a double-steal to score Owens and make it 3-0.
The Cougars added two more in the fifth inning after walking in a couple of runs with the bases loaded.
